Sealed units can be complicated to understand – coming Argon filled, hermetically sealed with warm edge spacer bars..... however, the Window Energy Rating takes care of all this so you don’t have to worry about it.

Building Regulations

Since 2002 all domestic installations of windows and doors need to be registered with the Local Authority.  It is the responsibility of the installer to comply with this legislation, and it can be achieved by registering with FENSA, Certass or the individual Local Authority.  If an installation comes under Building Regulations or Planning Consent then we would register with the Local Authority, however we register the majority of our domestic window and door replacements with FENSA, and have done since the regulations came into being.

There are strict guidelines to be followed regarding wheelchair access, fire escape hinges, safety and ventilation requirements.  While choosing the styles of windows and doors for your home we will advise you on the need for low thresholds, trickle vents, toughened glazing etc. to ensure your installation fully complies with the regulations.

Conservatories & porches are not subject to FENSA regulations although they may require planning consent, and/or permission from your local Water Authority

Window Energy Ratings

On 1st October 2010 new regulations came into effect regarding the thermal conductivity of windows and doors.  There are two ways of measuring this; by U value or by Energy Ratings, such as those we are used to seeing on white goods.  In the window industry timber frames are usually measured by U value, while PVCu and aluminium frames often have a WER (Window Energy Rating).  Our products all comply with the requirements and will be certified accordingly.  Further information can be found on www.bfrc.org or by asking one of our team about specific products.

Guarantees

Our PVCu and aluminium product ranges come with a ten year manufacturer’s guarantee on the frames, glazing and furniture.

The Rehau and aluminium ranges of products have the option to take out an additional insurance backed guarantee provided by QANW.

The Evolution and Bygone collections automatically receive an insurance backed guarantee provided by Homepro, in conjunction with Fairtrades.

All our timber installations are guaranteed for up to thirty years and come with an automatic insurance backed guarantee provided by Homepro, in conjunction with Fairtrades.

Our Services

Our commitment is to present a professional, friendly, no-pressure approach to prospective customers.  We don’t cold call and we won’t pester you for a decision.  Our quotations and surveys are free of charge, and we are always happy to offer alternative quotations on different specifications if you are undecided and require advice on the various options available.  The price we quote is the price you pay, whether you sign on the night or several weeks later (subject to survey).  Our fitting teams are trained and employed by us; we rarely use subcontractors except for speciality services such as tiling or electrics.  We understand that having workmen in your home can be stressful so we try to cause the minimum disruption and tidy up as we go, never leaving you with the old frames (unless you need them to make a cold frame!)

We offer a supply only service to local tradesmen or self-builders, however if you haven’t fitted a window before we would recommend using our installation teams to reduce your stress levels! Our TimberWindows and Bygone products are not available for supply only.

Our Team

We are a small family run company, established in 1995, and steadily growing ever since.

Our Managing Director, Darren, has twenty years experience in the window industry and takes the manufacturing sizes for each installation as well as organising the fitting teams and running the business.

Mike is our salesman and usually the first person you will meet.  He will discuss your requirements, take approximate measurements and provide you with a quotation.  He can offer advice on the suitability of products for your property.

Kerry is our head fitter, very knowledgeable and well trained in replacing even the most difficult of windows.  He has been with us for many years and is a hit with the customers.

Our administration and accounts are handled by Tracey, Darren’s wife.  She is elusive, often working from home, but knows all about the day to day goings on and ensures the business runs smoothly.
